The PetroSan Oilfield Engg. Co. produced ASTM A358 EFW stainless steel pipe is a high-quality pipe suitable for corrosive or high-temperature service, or both, or for general applications ¹. The pipes are sorted into five different classes, ranging from double-welded to single-welded pipes, with varying levels of radiography ¹. Here are the five classes of pipes under the ASTM A358 specification :
– Class 1: Double welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes and completely radiographed.
– Class 2: Double welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes with no radiography.
– Class 3: Single welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes and completely radiographed.
– Class 4: Single welded except that the weld pass exposed to the inside pipe surface may be without the addition of filler metal.
– Class 5: Double welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes and spot radiographed.
The ASTM A358 EFW stainless steel pipe is available in various sizes, ranging from 1/8 inch to 30 inches in diameter, and comes in different thicknesses. The pipe’s dimensions and weights are determined by ANSI specifications, and it is suitable for use in various industries, including construction, oil and gas, and chemical processing.
Different standards, including ASTM, DIN, JIS, GB, AISI, and other international standards, apply to ASTM A358 pipe. The electric fusion welding process is used to create the ASTM A358 Class 1 EFW Pipes. The composition of the materials for the ASTM A358 TP304 includes silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, 8% nickel, and 18% chromium. The composition of the far more durable A358 316L includes molybdenum. The material is resistant to corrosion by chloride ions because of the molybdenum component. Because of its strength and affordability, the A358 304 is the most popular material. There are eight to seventy-two inch sizes available for the ASTM A358 stainless steel pipe. The pipes’ thicknesses vary from 3 to 60 mm. The length of the ASTM A358 uns S31254 varies up to 6 meter.
TP304L Stainless Steel EFW, ASTM A358 Pipes can have a variety of finishes, including electropolished, pickled, BA, and No 4. Class 2 and ASTM A358 TP304 CL1 differ slightly mechanically. While class 2 has superior mechanical qualities and is utilized in certain applications, class 1 ASTM A358 TP304L is the material that is used most frequently. The food and beverage sector, the building industry, nuclear applications, boilers, and the petroleum and petrochemical industries all employ the ASTM A358 TP316l. Additionally, there are many pressure classes for the ASTM A358 TP316L CL1, which are divided into schedules 10 through 160. There are lower carbon variants of both the 304 and 316 materials. Better welding capacities are made possible by the reduced carbon concentration.

- ASTM A358 CL1 – A358 304 Pipe shall be double welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes and shall be completely radiographed.
- ASTM A358 CL2 – A358 316L Pipe shall be double welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes. No radiography is required.
- ASTM A358 CL3 – Pipe shall be single welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes and shall be completely radiographed.
- ASTM A358 CL4 – Same as Class 3 except that the weld pass exposed to the inside pipe surface may be made without the addition of filler metal.
- ASTM A358 CL5 – Pipe shall be double welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes and shall be spot radiographed.
