Ferrule / Tube Insert sleeves of Inconel 601, Inconel Alloy 601, nickel-chromium-iron, alloy 601 (UNS N06601/W.Nr. 2.4851).

Inconel alloy 601 tube insert sleeve or ferrule for the purpose of to protect the tube mouth ends of a shell and tube type heat exchanger, metal insert sleeves and ferrules are placed into the end of the heat exchanger tube. Since every tube failure happens within the first few inches of the heat exchanger tube inlet-end, this Tube Ferrule becomes necessary. The application of a thin wall covering—a metal tube insert that has been stretched to its full length—into the condenser and heat exchanger inlet end is the solution to this problem. The purpose of the PetroSan tube insert is to provide a gentle and seamless fluid passage from the tube insert to the heat exchanger or condenser tube. We provide both plastic/Delrin and metal tube inserts in.

Tube Insert Sleeve / Ferrule Material Grade :

Inconel 601 is a nickel-chromium alloy with excellent heat and corrosion resistance. It is resistant to high temperature oxidation up to 2200oF, with high temperature strength and strong ductility in long-term service applications. Excellent aqueous corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, and ease of fabrication, machining, and welding. It is widely utilized in aircraft, power generation, thermal processing, chemical treatment, and land-based gas turbine engines. 
At high temperatures, Alloy 601 resists heat and corrosion caused by oxidation and other media. It resists water corrosion and provides enough mechanical strength. It is easily made. Alloy 601 has good welding characteristics.

High Temperature Tube Insert or Ferrule Applications.

It is important to take precautions to avoid warping the tube sheet in applications where the exchanger’s tube side is exposed to extremely high temperatures (1650 F). This issue is resolved by using tube inserts. The tube insert usually has an hourglass shape, which allows air to pass between it and the parent tube. Ceramic paper at a high temperature (2300 F) is used to cover the gap. The paper is secured with tape. It is advised to tape the entire length. Full-length tape offers the following two benefits:

– Higher temperature ceramic paper can be squeezed onto the tube insert.
– The tape covers the ceramic paper, which can’t survive even minimal damage.

Castable refractory fills the gap where the tube insert extends out of the tube. Certain tube inserts feature anchors that ingrain themselves into the refractory, while others are positioned at a precise height from the tube sheet using pins equipped with ceramic paper washers. Heat transfer from the tube insert to the tube sheet is impeded by the ceramic washer. A typical design using high temperature paper is shown in Figure 8. The placement of a high temperature tube insert within a unit is shown in Figure 9.

An innovative ferrule assembly designed for high temperature applications has been developed by PetroSan. There are four parts to the ferrule assembly:

  • FERRULE
  • CERAMIC FIBER PAPER
  • CERAMIC FIBER WASHER
  • STANDOFF TUBE

The ferrule is a metal tube insert that is shaped to fit the application. It is fully taped and covered in ceramic fiber paper with the appropriate temperature rating. The ceramic fiber paper is compressed during the taping process due to the pressure applied. There is a ceramic fiber washer included, the right size for the job. Usually, the standoff tube is the same size as the heat exchanger tube and made of the same alloy as the ferrule. The drawing that is included illustrates how the parts are put together.
